I'm still recovering from our whirlwind tour of the desert.
- 1:45am is too early to get up to start a day.
- Although I went to bed at 7:30pm so technically, I had enough sleep.
- We made good time to Salton Sea because no one in their right mind is driving on the road at that time of the morning.
- It is really, really dark in the desert.
- The Starbucks outside of Salton Sea doesn't open until 6:30am, which is harsh when you've been driving in the wee hours of the morning and you arrive outside its doors at 5:40am.
- We had the wrong address for the Salton Sea Marina so we shot the sunrise in a random location along the sea.
- I had issues with my feather Impossible film.
- I also shot an entire roll, 36 frames, of phantom film.
- Yes, I forgot to load my camera,
- and no, this isn't the first time its happened.
- I tell you those photos were special and I didn't really care about no. 7 above, because I knew the roll of
ghostfilm was great. - At one point I considered there might not be film in the camera from the sound when the film was supposedly advancing, but I didn't want to risk exposing the film.
- Now I have a fail safe method to know when the camera is loaded or not: Washi Tape.
- If there's a square on the back of the camera, there's film inside. If there isn't, than it's empty.
- Putting the little square from the film box top on the camera doesn't help because I've forgotten that there's nothing inside, thinking that little square meant the camera was loaded.
- I digress.
- There's still a lot of great abandoned shit out on Salton Sea, definitely worth a trip out there if you're so inclined.
- We drove to Joshua Tree, but I didn't realize that the end nearest to Palm Springs isn't the part to see the sights, so we had to scratch that from the itinerary.
- The Saguaro is all I expected and more.
- Totally worth the extra $ for the ground floor, patio room.
- The pool is divine.
- So are the grounds.
- I've got a crush on Palm Springs and the surrounding areas.
- I can't wait to go back.

I'm really hoping that we make it back out that way this here. Driving around the California deserts have been our favorite road trips. Wish I could be there right now.
