list no. 37 : 10 things I learned in that writing workshop

  1. It's ok to share something that isn't my best work.
  2. Even though I can talk myself right up to the ledge, the truth is no one is judging me.
  3. It could be that I'm the only one that thinks the piece is crap.
  4. And that's why it's why called a writing exercise.
  5. I need to remember that no matter what sort of class or workshop I'm taking.
  6. It has always been my way to be participatory in class. Even when my answer is incorrect, or I'm taken down a notch, (as was the case in more than a few art school presentations), I've taken to heart that 'participation' is part of the experience.
  7. This past weekend, I noticed the ladies who worked quietly away. They didn't share unless called upon. Literally, they were soaking in the experience.
  8. And there's something really lovely in that absorption of content, of being totally present and in the moment.
  9. I've taken to heart that experience, and plan to practice quiet absorption the next time I'm in a class environment.
  10. I learned that I'm at my best when I take classes and workshops alone. That putting myself into a room with total strangers and outside of my comfort zone, allows my work to  shine. Even when especially when the work is just for me.
