An embarrassment of riches, truly one for the ages, here is a list of the music we heard at Coachella*.
Friday
- Abe Vigoda
- James (Good old tunes to dance to!)
- Jimmy Cliff
- Girls
- Gary Clark Jr (We only heard snippets but really good)
- Arctic Monkeys
- Madness
- M. Ward
- Pulp**
- The Rapture (Only one song, but the one song you want to hear and we jumped right in singing and dancing.)
- The Black Keys** (RAD!! I'd heard them on the radio and I didn't really care, but lordy was I wrong. Those boys play wicked guitar and the tunes are soul-filled. I'd definitely love to see them again.)
- Swedish House Mafia** (I heard their entire set from our tent, while I was sleeping...or in and out of sleep because I had ear plugs. I kept wondering why the camp site next to ours had the music so loud. I could feel the base in the ground under my sleeping bag. I remember liking the music, just wishing they'd turn it down.)
Saturday
- AWOLnation (Fast, sort of pop sound with a band full of head bangers.)
- Kaiser Chiefs (SO. FUN.)
- Andrew Bird (Ohai, amazing)
- Laura Marling (Again, amazing)
- Manchester Orchestra
- Squeeze (awww)
- Buzzcocks
- Firehose
- St. Vincent (Didn't love as much as I wanted to)
- The Shins** (Oh my. I didn't get it about The Shins but now I do. They won my heart and were definitely a top favorite of the entire weekend.)
- Bon Iver. (Bon Nuit. I love his music so so much and have all of his CD's and play them regularly. But his show was boring and it was freezing and it made me sleepy.)
- Radiohead (This was my 4th time I've seen them and probably my least favorite. Still my favorite band but...)
Sunday
- Fanfarlo (Fantastic!)
- Lissie (Bluesy, folksy, rockin' tunes from a girl with a beautiful voice. Definitely looking for more of her music.)
- Band of Skulls
- Santigold
- Real Estate (moody and lovely and in a tent that was in the shade, so perfect.)
- Wild Flag (Super rock all girl punk band. LOVE. 2/3 of sleator-kinney and the one lead guitar girl is on the show Portlandia. Def worth checking them out.)
- The Hives
- Gotye
- Beirut (Love, love, love, we saw most of their set)
- Justice (Super dance party!)
- Florence and the Machine (I don't know what happened, or maybe she was always Oh Mighty Isis and I didn't know it.)
- Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg** (My favorite. They had a live band, none of that taped crap and they brought down the house. Insane.)
*We heard 2-4 songs, depending on timing. Because so much of the music was happening simultaneously, we were strategic on how we'd get the most out of the bands we wanted to see.
**These were the acts that we had to see, (either or both of us), and we made it a point to hear the entire set.
