Noodling around on Pinterest, (my favorite way to waste spend time on the internet), I decided to search for 50+ fashion.*
Talk about disappointing! I found very little on Pinterest that feels representative of me, or how I'd want to present myself in the world.
Every once in a while I'd see a photo with a glimmer of a lady who represents, and that image would be drowning next to the bazillion photos of middle-aged sensibility. Blouses and slacks. Scarfs and belted tunics.
There is nothing wrong with any of those items, maybe even together, but not as the standard, and definitely not for me.
There is also nothing wrong with me not ascribing to 'the look'.**
I like my hair long.
I like boots and leggings and soft, layered clothing.
I feel most comfortable in jeans.
The only button down I like on me is a flannel.
I like to dress up, (dresses feel better than skirts), and I rarely wear a heel that isn't a wedge or stacked.
I like makeup. Nude, muted, colors are nice, and I think a pop of color on the lips, (or eyes), looks good too.
I love black.
I love colors and patterns, although I gravitate towards stripes.
I wear cotton or cashmere, sometimes silk. If it's blended, (wool, mohair, even merino), it will be both itchy and scratchy, and it's not for me.
I have to remove all labels.***
*There are a handful of great blogs, why aren't there more??
**I bought into the whole I'm middle-aged and need to look like I'm an adult for a few years, (I call them my Chico's years), and eventually I didn't recognize me.
***Everlane makes labels that are plastic and tear out very easily, without ruining your garment. Another reason imo, to love their clothing.
