- Week seventeen. The calendar year is zipping by and suddenly, that vacation planned last winter isn't so far off now. And that's totally exciting.
- And then I start to worry about our woofer. He's very attached to us and me especially as I'm his buddy and he's mine.
- I didn't take many photos at Coachella, but these colors in the photos above capture exactly the dry and relentless heat of a weekend in the sun in the desert.
- I got a pair of these again. I wore my first pair out walking up and down the streets of NY and I've missed them. The patent makes them dressy by L.A. standards and birks are very comfortable on my feet.
- My group show on Friday night was a packed event.
- This is my third gallery show and I have very different thoughts and opinions about gallery shows than I did when I added no. 49 to my list.
- There are the comments, the ones overheard when people stand in front of work and don't realize the artist is standing close by: 'they're so out of focus...', 'she must have had them sitting in a drawer for years before developing them, they look so old...', 'do you think she's in the same hotel? the beds don't look the same...', 'no look. there's a hotel and a motel, they aren't all in the same place...'
- Or this one by two men: 'this project is all about innocence, it's why the photos are soft and out of focus'
- It's a great reminder that ALL art is subjective, that you have to believe in yourself and your work and if you reach even one person, than you've done your job.
- I don't give a shit if someone likes my work because I BELIEVE the work is good. I see how far I've grown in the past six months as a photographer and I like the path I'm on very much.
- I do give a shit though, when I have to hear what's being said. Outside of a classroom crit, it's very hard to hear your work talked about.
- One big truth: I'm so uncomfortable in any schmoozy schmooz environment. I usually stand away from my work, wearing my heart on my sleeve, wishing I was the bionic woman.
- I have another show coming up in September, I'm working on a strategy to help me get through because my current mode of skulking around is awkward.
