I wrote about older festival goers recently, and it is a fact that I was very wrong when I said that older attendees don't follow 20-something hipster fashion.
Many, many, ladies, young and old, have a festival uniform that often means very little clothing to combat the heat. Shorts have become so short and tight, parts are outlined and ass cheeks are available for your viewing pleasure.
Forget the bikini top, there's better ventilation in a lace bra. I saw some really beautiful lingerie this past weekend, and the nips they covered.
Then there are the women in a bikini, almost always wearing knee high boots and some sort of head dress. I like those girls/women because they love to dance, and it's super fun to watch the boys watching them.
The best part of people watching has to be the metrosexual trend among festival dudes who think it's awesome to wear spandex pants and/or shorts. One better, womens shorts! We all know that tight leggings or shorts means scant undies and by scant what I really mean is none, so I'm not lying when I say I saw quite a bit of ween this weekend. Nothing bared, but the fabric is thin and you get the picture.
In all honesty, I saw only five, older female festival goers that I thought looked fantastic. Too many women my age were reliving the glory days in clothes that were too small and didn't look so great. Or they looked like someone's mom in sweat-wicking hiking shorts from Patagonia, a worn tee, and their sunglasses attached to a neo-prene sunglass holder.
It got me thinking about media and fashion and women in their 50's. I started noodling around online and found a few movie stars. Most of the supermodels are in their mid-40's so they don't quite fit the demographic I was looking for, although there is my favorite from back in the day, Mrs. Simon LeBon, who is a fashionable stunner and turning 50 this year.
I found quite a few blogs dedicated to being over 50 and fashionable, but none resonated. Some felt like an advertisement for Chico's, or, 'hey, look! i'm wearing all of this because i can, i'm fifty and i don't care!
I like the attitude on all the blogs because each of the writers are individual and very comfortable with where they are in life and I say right on with all of that, but it's not what I'm looking for. So maybe it's time to create what I'm looking for. I have the best tools: a vast metropolis, cameras and my imagination.
*i blame this rambling posteverything on the sandstorm this past weekend at coachella. that shit was no joke.
