this and that

So here I am, listening to the sound of clothes in the dryer, and dinner is on the stove. I've cooked every night this week and I've used most of our CSA share, even though my husband and daughter both balk at the idea of so many vegetables being ingested.

Maybe everyone is just grateful that I'm cooking again.

Funny that, that I know how to cook well, (albeit with issues), despite my decades long resistance to being any good. Every meal involves some sort of lapse with ingredients forgotten, or I didn't prepare an item quite to spec, and then I'm improvising and sometimes all that effort isn't enough and breakfast for dinner promptly becomes a great idea.

All this domesticity is better for my sensitive digestion; gluten and dairy are prevalent, (and lurking everywhere!), in food these days and a woman in the grocery store mentioned today that October is un-processed month and it all seemed timely.

Because my sweet tooth is strong and I've learned the hard way my lesson about my beloved candy favorites and hidden gluten, I've found a new favorite: Alter Eco dark chocolate bars. And Trader Joe's lemon curd with gluten-free pretzels, my own jacked version of a lemon bar.*

Sex and the City was on this morning and seemed appropriate as I folded laundry and made lists of clothes to pack for London. I'm so looking forward to experiencing Fall weather. We had a month long heat wave and now it's Indian Summer and while I don't complain too much, (I love the blue skies), I would like a bit of change.

I'm ready for a change of scenery and routine and look forward to a week away.

*trust me when i say that it tastes like a lemon bar, something about the pretzels is reminiscent of a graham cracker with the lemon curd. or it's been so long since i've had lemony delectables, my mind is playing tricks on me.
