Observations on the differences that I noted of life on each coast.
- The energy. The streets of NYC pulsate and the pace can only be described as frenetic. Literally, you hit the ground running or you'll be run down.
- Speaking of being run down, people have NO PERSONAL SPACE in the city. I can't tell you how many times my bag wacked the shit out of some person who had to get past me right now!
- And the smug satisfaction that my bag probably hurt when it smacked them.
- I get so agro when I'm in NYC, it really doesn't bring out a good side of me because I am very much that person that needs to pass the slower walking tourists right now
- Without crashing into said slow walker, obvi.
- Food is much richer in Manhattan. It tastes like food is cooked in butter, which tastes sooo good, but filled me up quickly and as a result, I wasted quite a lot of food.
- That said, I ate some amazing, hearty, French food.
- And some of the best poached eggs, (cooked in olive oil!!), at the Standard Hotel.
- Veg and fruit have to be sought out, it's not a given.
- Salads are more French or Italian, unless you've gone to a specific joint that serves a lighter fare.
- I'm ridiculously spoiled as a gluten-free girl in Los Angeles. I have SO many options and I don't have to go looking, whereas in NYC, it's definitely something I had to look for.
- The shopping is to die for.
- My new favorite discovery? Uniqlo. M has been talking about the store for years, but it was my first time and definitely believe the hype! I can't wait for the new, CA locations to open.
- There is the best people watching ever.
- And the fashion! I saw such cool clothes and patterns; funky, confident and inspiring.
As much as there is to love about NYC, I can honestly say for the first time since we moved out of Manhattan, that I'm good with where we live. Perhaps it's because so much of who I am has changed in the past two years, but I like the pace of Los Angeles. I like the blue sky and that there's space to breathe, move, and live.

Lovely to read your thoughts on NYC.
ReplyDeleteAnd isn't it nice to realize that you like where you are?! Had that same feeling recently too. Very calming.
