on the street

It was a different trip to New York this year, (it's always good to mix things up, right?), in that our schedule was busy every evening. Once miss A was deposited with her friends across the river, we were Mr. and Mrs. Social.

With dinner plans each evening and M's days filled with meetings, (even on vacation, which is annoying, but the reality of self-employment and I'm grateful because we have a nice life and I feel blessed), I had a lot of free time for solitary adventures.

I trolled up and down my favorite streets, taking photos, stopping in a store or two, listening to music. I've never been one of those city dwellers that tunes out with tunes, instead choosing to be alert to my surroundings, but I noticed that my days spent in music were calmer than the days I walked around without.

In hindsight I now see that music soothed my jagged, kinetic edges and allowed me to enjoy what I love best about New York: walking and watching, and I love that my polaroids reflect what I was taking in:

a favorite corner in Chinatown,

and of course, my beloved water towers dotting the skyline.
