notes on life : family

How is Thanksgiving next week? This year is roaring to a close and while I'm aware of the date, I have also resisted its urgency, and now I'm feeling the pressure!

I'm still on the table, (ha!), about whether I'll eat any of the bird, and I'm grateful that M will do all of the gross prep work so there's that.

+++++++++++

Hannukah is early-ish this year, which is good because A and M are going on a big father-daughter vacay over the holidays. I decided to not join for a number of reasons, the first being our four-legged family member. Overnight, extended, stay on short notice during Christmas is not available, (or at least acceptable ones aren't), so where to put pupperino became an issue.

We've talked for a few years now about doing this, big trips alone with our kid, before she's so grown she's not a kid anymore. It was decided that M would take A somewhere alone and I would do the same, it just worked out that they go first.

It's an amazing opportunity for all of us. Almost fourteen and so much changes once high school begins. This experience, (they are going to Japan), this year, makes me happy and I know we're creating memories for all of us.

Our trip won't be as exotic or international, but a week in Manhattan, shopping, shooting and taking in shows, (On The Town and An American in Paris), (!!!), will be amazing.

Turns out, my girl is a avid shutter bug. Ever since inheriting my first DSLR, all she wants to do is shoot. Mostly she's taking portraits of her friends and herself, but she has a keen eye and in her defense, our little beach community is not what interests her. She was very specific about wanting to go to NYC with me: she wants to shoot, shop, and see shows.

Be still my heart.
