dressed up

It was a gratifying feeling yesterday, when I was able to pass along a large bag of clothing for an upcoming swap I won't be able to attend.

Most of the items I passed along were barely worn and it was hard for me to drop them into the charity bins when we did a  house sweep at the beginning of the year. I've been culling this particular bag for awhile, knowing that these items should go to the right home and now I think they will.

I love looking into my closet and seeing only items I love. Clothes that fit me well and I feel good about myself when I'm wearing them. I've done the same with my outerwear, my bags and shoes. Makeup and accessories have also been streamlined and all this less is more feels good!

Until I had to get dressed for a business function with the mister. It wasn't super dressy, this occasion called for something dressier than my casual dressy I'm going on a date look and I didn't have a damn thing to wear.

I ended up in a dress which was fine, but what I really wanted was what I used to wear to work, back when I worked outside of the home. A nice blouse and pants.

I've been noodling around on pinterest boards, focusing on NYC style boards, because NY women tend to dress more than women here in L.A. A day look for a stylish lady there would be more than appropriate for a dressy evening here.

I've been out to the shops and it's a frustrating to have money to spend and nothing to buy. I remembered a beautiful, simple online shop where I buy great t-shirts and found a black blouse that I hope is fabulous. If it is there are more colors...

Then this morning this came from The Universe

When you look at old photos, Kristen, it's obvious isn't it? You were good-looking back then. Really good-looking. Yet somehow, at the time, you didn't quite believe it.

Kristen, learn from yesterday, because today you're even better looking than you were then. Way better. You're smarter, too. Funnier. Wiser. More compassionate. Less serious. And you're totally sauntering!

Just thought you should know.

And the PS...

Now Kristen, about some of the old clothes you're still wearing... let's just say, they haven't aged as gracefully as you.

I know everyone that subscribes gets the same messages, but some days, (like today), it felt like a special message just for me; that this honing and refining of my style is not so frivolous vain after all.
